House History Tracing
Tracing a property’s history offers a unique connection to the past that combines personal discovery, historical exploration and storytelling. The fascination lies in uncovering the hidden layers of a property’s life - learning who lived there, what events unfolded within its walls and how it and the local area evolved over time.
This four-week course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to uncover the stories behind properties and their inhabitants.
  • Explore the main sources for house history in England and Wales, both online and in archives, such as surveys, maps and deeds.
  • Understand how to access and interpret records useful for house history.
  • See examples of house histories and how they were researched.
  • Practical tips for organising your findings and writing an engaging and well-structured house history.
  • Recordings available to watch until 4 June 2025.
