The records held in The Royal Mail Archive at The Postal Museum cover all of the UK and, up until 1920 Ireland too, and are a rich resource for family historians. This visit will enable you to explore the process of researching your ancestors who worked for the British postal service. You will be able to try out the resources by accessing appointment and pension records online and on microfilm, as well as original physical records such as Establishment Books and staff magazines. The reference library covering a wide range of communications history also gives some insight into how the postal service shaped the lives of our ancestors and their working lives.
Some of the Archive team will be on hand to explain how to use the resources and answer any questions you may have.
Please let us know if you have any access requirements that you would like us to be aware of.
Joining details will be sent by email the day before the visit.
Contact events@sog.org.uk if you have any questions.
